CityCAD goes free

Introducing the Urbanist Licence

We are releasing CityCAD 3.3.2 which includes a big change to CityCAD subscriptions. All current licence types will be retired and will be replaced with a single option - the Urbanist licence.

This is a renewable 2-year licence completely free of charge to all uses for personal, academic or commercial use, for any type of organisation.

If you are currently using an academic or other non-commercial licence, then as of today you are free to use this for commercial use. When current commercial licences expire, you can renew them as an Urbanist licence free of charge.

Why are we doing this?

The aim of our company has remained unchanged since its creation in 2005 - to create technology for liveable cities. The aim of CityCAD was to make multi-disciplinary analysis possible from the earliest stages of a design project, when the most important decisions about layout, urban form and use mix are being taken.

We have expanded these capabilities over the years - adding more advanced drawing and editing features, improving interoperability, introducing more flexible land uses, adding analysis features and improving graphics quality. CityCAD has been utilized by thousands of users from all continents of the world, including architects, urban designers, local government planners, asset managers and housing developers.

As a technical consultancy we have also delivered a range of complex urban modelling and simulation products and services to major clients around the world. These included advanced carbon modelling, streetscape design, real estate portfolio management, facilities management and a small number of generative AI masterplanning prototypes.

Going forward, we have taken the decision to focus on these consultancy projects, working with our clients to deliver cutting edge tools to help model and simulate the urban environment. As part of this change, we will release the CityCAD platform free of charge - to empower urban designers, unlock design innovation and support the creation of liveable and resilient cities around the world.
