Urban planning education and academic research
Professional grade urban design tools, completely free.
CityCAD is an application specifically created for urban design and planning, not generic CAD adapted for cities, helping students to focus on design thinking.
It integrates multiple disciplines in a single package, and teaches students how to start with strategic concepts, lay out a network of streets and spaces, then progress to the detailed massing and land use mix of buildings.
The learning curve is gentle enough for undergraduate beginners yet provides analytical depth for postgraduate research, with students typically becoming productive during the first lab session.
Universities and colleges across six continents have been using CityCAD over the last 15 years to to teach everything from first-year urban design principles to postgraduate research on sustainable cities.
CityCAD is also supported by the Urban Design Database, providing thousands of real world examples to students.
Students can sign up to their own individual free licences of CityCAD, but we can also provide support for departmental deployments across computer labs. For research-intensive universities, we are also interested in collaborating on projects exploring AI in planning, urban simulation, computational urbanism and carbon analysis.
